C’est un des scénarios les plus refusés de Hollywood : plus de quarante fois ! Aucun producteur ne croyait à ce projet de Robert Zemeckis et Bob Gale, un tandem inventif surnommé "les deux Bob". Pas rancunier, Steven Spielberg, qui leur doit pourtant trois flops, impose le film auprès des studios Universal, Gale signant le script et Zemeckis assurant la réalisation. Et en 1985, Retour vers le futur pulvérise le box-office et devient un succès planétaire, conforté par deux suites en 1989 et 1990. Décennie après décennie, la popularité de cette trilogie ne faiblit pas. Pourquoi cette longévité alors que tant de blockbusters sombrent dans l’oubli ?
